Dubai office building implements IoT and AI to cut energy use

Technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) have helped ENBD REIT reduce the energy consumption of Al Thuraya 1 by 7%. The Sharia-compliant real estate investment trust managed by Emirates NBD Asset Management Limited said in a statement that it has partnered with EP&T Global to apply IoT, AI, and machine learning at the Dubai Media City office building. 
A 28-floor property with 18,000m2 of commercial space, Al Thuraya 1 has adopted EP&T’s Edge Zeus technology to achieve operational efficiency. According to ENBD REIT, the system combines big data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to achieve cost reductions and improved comfort conditions. It collects, analyses, and interprets big data, which it then uses to create an “interactive view of a site’s data universe”. This reportedly allows EP&T to deliver actionable information for facilities management teams to achieve efficiencies and cost reductions. Since installation at Al Thuraya Tower 1, Edge Zeus has identified more than 30 energy savings opportunities worth $68,063 (AED250,000) and reduced energy consumption by 7%.
The project is expected to deliver a return on investment of up to 40%, ENBD REIT noted, adding that it is looking to apply similar initiatives across its property portfolio over time.Anthony Taylor, head of real estate at Emirates NBD Asset Management, commented, "We're pleased to announce the launch of Edge Zeus technology at Al Thuraya Tower 1, in partnership with EP&T Global and with the support of Operon Middle East Facilities Management.
